Compress PDF to the size you need

Government portals, job sites and email often limit uploads to 100 KB–2 MB. PDFroo recompresses images, removes waste and can aim for an exact target size – privately on your device.

How to use Compress PDF with PDFroo

  1. Add one or more PDF files.
  2. Choose a preset (Light, Balanced, Strong) or a target size such as 200 KB.
  3. Press “Compress PDF” and compare the before and after sizes, then download.

Common size limits

  • 100–200 KB: many government and exam application portals.
  • 500 KB–1 MB: job portals and visa document uploads.
  • 10–25 MB: typical email attachment limits.

Scanned documents compress best. For forms that only need black-and-white text, scanning at 150–200 DPI before compressing gives the smallest readable files.

Frequently asked questions

Are my files uploaded to a server?

No. PDFroo processes your files inside your own browser using JavaScript and WebAssembly. Nothing is uploaded, so your documents never leave your device and there is nothing for us to store or delete.

How does target-size compression work?

PDFroo first recompresses the images inside your PDF at gradually lower quality while keeping text sharp and selectable. If that is still too large, it can rebuild pages as optimized images, testing settings until the file fits under your target.

Will my text stay selectable?

Light and Balanced modes keep text and vector graphics as they are. Only when a very small target cannot be reached otherwise does PDFroo convert pages to images – it tells you when that happens.

Why can’t my file reach 100 KB?

A file with many pages of photos may not fit in 100 KB at readable quality. Try splitting it, removing unneeded pages, or choosing a slightly larger target.

Is compression lossless?

The Light preset is lossless (it only optimizes the file structure). Balanced and Strong reduce image quality to save space.
